About Sofia

Welcome to my online portfolio website. I am Sofia Herkiä, a designer (Graphic, UX / UI) from Espoo, Finland.

I worked for over 4 years in a software company Nordhealth, in several positions (as a Web Developer, UI/UX Designer and as a Visual Designer part of a marketing team). Currently I work as UI/UX Designer in a software company Funidata.

In 2023, I completed my postgraduate studies at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Master’s Degree Programme in Digital Service Design.

In 2017 I completed my degree in Business Information Technology at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences.

In 2012 I graduated from Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences (Nowadays known as Xamk). I studied media communication and my specialization was in graphic design.

In my current position, I have been able to learn and consider accessibility issues as part of the planning process. My Master’s thesis from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences studied the implementation of accessibility in information graphics. I discovered how heuristic evaluation can be utilized to identify shortcomings in the accessibility of infographics, especially from the perspective of users with color vision deficiencies
